A logo (also known as a logotype) is a word mark or symbol or emblem that identifies a business aiding and promoting immediate recognition, inspiring trust, admiration, loyalty and an implied superiority.
There are many different ways to classify a logo:
- Combination Mark
What is a Wordmark logo?
A Wordmark logo is usually a letterform the business name written in a unique combination. For example FedEx, Google Hugo Boss and Coca-Cola.
What is a Symbol/Icon logo design?
A Symbol logo is more illustrative and sometimes represents the company name in the logo e.g. Apple is the company’s name and their logo is an apple with a bite out of it or Penguin books is the name and the logos symbol.
What is a letter Mark/Monogram logo?
Think of a Letter Mark logo as a Monogram for your business. Like a Wordmark, a Letter Mark is entirely text, but rather than the entire name of a business the logo relies on initials to represent the brand for example CK represents Calvin Klein.
What is a Combination Mark?
A combination Mark is the blend of a Symbol and a Wordmark together. Examples include Chanel, Nike and Rolex.
What is an emblem?
An emblem is a Wordmark inside a shape for example Alfa Romeo’s logo, UPS logo and Harley Davidson logo.
